I have been meeting a ton of new people that are going to SXSW. Are you going? Send me your twitter name or look for "Alex Harris" in the SXSW Registrant Directory. You can also find me on the SXSW Ning networking site.

As South By South West gets closer, there are a lot of social events popping up. Below is a list of meet-ups that I am considering so far. These events may or may not be listed on the SXSW website. I will also be in town for the Music portion as well. If there are any suggestions on events that I should consider going to. Post them here!

Monday night is jam packed with events.

I also invite you to check out the PhizzPop party, co-hosted by Refresh Austin, at Maggie Mae's and the Great British Booze-up across the street at Shakespeare's.

What is a SXSW wristband and why would I need one if I have a music platinum pass already?

I don't think you need a wristband if you have a platinum.

The Dogs
This is the real Detroit rock Ala The Stooges and and MC5. The Swami (John Reis from RFTC) aired The Dogs live on his radio show and started a resurgence of this Iconic three piece band that is still as raw and fresh as it was in 1978. Just finished demos and are ready to hit the studio…Just wrapped a packed west coast and Northwest Tour. Slash your face!

Mad Juana
Sami Yaffa from Hanoi Rocks / NY Dolls fame has a side band that brings a circus like visual experience…Think Gogol Bordello with a Gypsy fetish. They released their 2nd record last year and are hitting the road in between NY Dolls tours. Mad Juana are like a band of gypsies intent on entertaining the villagers. Watch your wallets and the wine cabinet. www.myspace.com/madjuana

Lady Dottie and The Diamonds
The band released its Debut CD in September and was immediately invited to CMJ. A staple in San Diego for more than a decade, Lady Dottie and the Diamonds are the regions premier blues rock and soul act. It's a dance party that goes all night. Think The Bell Rays meets Sharon Jones. www.myspace.com/ladydottieandthediamonds

Wild Weekend
Sounds like punk rock circa 1977, but led by three 20 something females and a guy drummer. They started off covering the L-A iconic punk band The Zeros (my brothers band), but now play originals. There's a strong buzz after six months of touring from San Diego to Seattle. DO NOT mistake this for "chick rock". www.myspace.com/wildweekend07

Maren Parusel
Pairing wistful pop melodies with the darker shadings of Indy folk and rock. From the nursery rhyme simplicity of "I Believe" to the Lennon-esque piano voicing of "Days in Universe"... Parusel wields a widely contrasting range of musical colors and textures to paint pictures of longing, lost love, and other non-terrestrial lyrical subjects - she is clearly avian, trapped in a human's body! She could quench your thirst for Cat Power or other pop desires.
